SELF-PORTRAIT NR 1. (2025)

“A few years have passed accepting the reality of my artist self more and more, and letting myself and my life dissolve into creating and expressing. On the journey of allowing art to become the center of my life, I arrived at the point that I wanted to portray it. To capture it and create a memento of this first part of my artist journey.
On this journey I realized that as an artist I want people to connect to my work, to my creations, and through that to me, instead of directly to me as a person. Therefore I reduced my personal presence on my platforms and put my artworks at the center.

One of the main drives behind my work is the admiration and sensation of beauty. Beauty in all its forms, whether it is a moment, a meaning, a feeling, or just a view. Being able to see beauty and finding my way to show it to others to feel it and see it, that is what it is really about. Not many other things give me the level of happiness that experiencing beauty does. That is the sensation that drives my artworks most of the time.

I wanted to make a self-portrait that aligns with this. A self-portrait where I, the artist, am present and visible, but where my art and my connection to it are represented instead of the person. Realising this intention, I knew I wanted to use flowers to symbolise beauty. I wanted the flowers to take over the face and create a portrait that highlights how beauty, rather than the person, stands at the center of my artistic identity.

Floral design: Vanda Leányfalvi and Vera Várszegi

This project would not have been possible without my very good friends Vanda Leányfalvi and Vera Várszegi. Thank you so much for helping me bring this portrait to life and for creating this beautiful floral design.
